Waterloo Cross by Marston's Inns

Came to Waterloo Cross to eat with my daughter and granddaughter and after a long day, and were really greatful for such a warm welcome from Emma, who was really helpful and through with our food allergies, not to mention made my 2 year old granddaughter laugh, after a stressful journey! We ordered a gluten free cowboy burger, a chicken kebab and a kids sausage and mash, it was hot and delicious, and felt reassured by Emma that the kitchen had taken extra care with the gluten free meal. Thank you so much Emma, you turned a stressful end of day into a happy eve!

Let's start with the most important thing, the atmosphere of the hotel was very comfortable. The size of the room was amazing. The shower cabin was equipped with a new German mixer. Free parking, convenient location, very comfortable bed made my stay at this hotel unforgettable.

Convenient location for a stop off and the pub is OK. The staff are absolutely lovely however the hotel is very tired. I would not pay anymore than £65 a night. Very noisy as it is on a very busy trunk rd. Marstons need to invest in this place. I give the 4 stars only because of the staff.

We were met with a very friendly greeting and check in with Sue. We were escorted to our room and briefed on the breakfast and dining options along with the fire safety etc and given the out of hours number to call if needed. The room was surprisingly large as was the very comfortable bed. The car park had plenty of space and the pub offered value for money and a great atmosphere.

Check-in: Friendly and easy check-in. Matthew personally showed us to the rooms, which was a nice touch. Rooms (Score: 4/5): Stayed in rooms 2 and 6. Both were a decent size and fairly comfortable with the basics provided. One room was accessed through the pub interior, the other from outside around the side of the building — a bit quirky. The property is clearly an older building and a bit dated, but for the price it works. Internet (Score: 5/5): Surprisingly excellent Wi-Fi, consistently around 180 Mbps — very fast for a countryside inn. Location (Score: 4/5): Convenient spot close to the train station. Handy for travelers passing through. Breakfast (Score: 4/5): Not included in the room rate, but reasonably priced. Continental options like porridge, yogurt, and toast were good, and there’s also an à la carte menu if you want something more. Work Desk (Score: 4/5): Room had a decent desk setup with power nearby, which made working there comfortable. Sleep (Score: 4/5): Mattress was on the firmer side but still comfortable, with quiet surroundings and nice linens for a decent night’s rest. Temperature (Score: 3/5): No AC or fan in my room, though the weather was cool enough that it wasn’t a major problem. Issues: Shower was very narrow — a bit tight for a larger person, but plenty of hot water. No ventilation in the room, which could be uncomfortable in warmer months. Overall: A charming but slightly dated countryside inn with friendly service, fast internet, and fair prices. Great for a short stay if you don’t mind some quirks of an older building.

Came here with my family a few weeks ago, the atmosphere and food were lovely, Sharna particularly was so attentive and made our experience so comfortable. definitely worth a visit.

Lovely welcome from Mel on first day, but all the staff were very nice (unfortunately didn’t get their names) Room is worn, but clean and has everything you need. But the food is the reason you’ll go back! Working nights coming back to a great fry up, then burgers any top restaurant would be proud of. Will definitely book again if I’m working in area.

Stayed for 2 nights. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were all super helpful and nice. The food is great; it can get quite busy in the evening due to table reservations so make sure to mention if you're staying in one of their rooms and they'll find a table for you. There's a bus stop right outside that takes you to and from the rail station, Tiverton and the surrounding areas.
